Wow....

Hehe....I just read a very interesting book that someone close to me recommended...It's called Secrets of my Hollywood Life by Jen Calonita. I guess it's a series? Well....let's just say I laughed very hard with this book. The writing is, let's just say, mediocre, and the storyline is very original. (NOT) It's about teen star Kaitlin Burke, and her desire to live a "normal life", so she disguises herself as a British exchange student and goes to school. All while trying to hide her secret from her evil co-star, SKY MACKENZIE! And along the way, she finally meets an actual normal boy! WOW~ But the plot is not what bugs me the most. It's the author's obsession with mentioning designer brands, and the character's lavish lifestyle. Not that it's not okay to do that. But she makes it seem so important to have all that expensive stuff, which it is NOT! It's outrageous. I only did this book review because a lot of girls in my school are reading this book, and I just wanted to share my opinion of it. So DON'T BE OFFENDED IF YOU LIKE THIS BOOK. Just saying. :) Well, happy chanukah.

Mama's Bank Account

So I recently read a book called Mama's Bank Account, by Kathryn Forbes. It's a quick read, but very enjoyable. It's about a Norwegian-American family whose Mother, "Mama", is the main character in this book. Her daughter, Katrin, later known as Kathryn, wanted to write a book about her strong mother, and the tough times she got them through. The way she carried herself through these times impressed me the most. She was always firm, loving, and kind, and never lost her temper. It's not exactly an action book, but if you are looking for a light hearted read, this is the book for you.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

So I just read a book called the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It probably is my FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!! It can be a little violent sometimes, though, so I'd recommend it for ages 12 and up.
This book is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a nation once known as North America, now known as Panem. Panem has twelve districts, and every year two people ages 12-18 are sent to an event known as the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is not your average televised game show. The rules are last one standing wins. And by last one standing, that means last one alive. So it's a brutal fight to the death.
When Katniss's sister, Primrose, is nominated for the Hunger Games, Katniss quickly takes her place, along with local boy Peeta Mellark. The minute they set foot in the arena, they are at risk every moment.
Will Katniss survive? Will she somehow avoid killing Peeta?? OOOOHHH! Read it to find out! (It may sound like a weird book, but trust me, once you read it, you'll LOVE IT!)

Red Scarf Girl by Ji-Li Jiang

This review is about Red Scarf Girl by Ji-Li Jiang This book is set in 1966 in Communist China. Twelve year old Ji-Li seems to have everything. A great family, a nice home, and a bright future. But when China's leader, Mao Zedong, launches the Cultural Revolution, everything changes.

She and her family are constantly humiliated and exploited because of their "class status." They live in constant fear of arrest, and one day, her father does get arrested.

This book is a really great book!!!! It teaches of what happened during the Cultural Revolution in a really interesting story. It also shows how...STUPID it was! :) Ji-Li's father being arrested because his father was a landlord? It was wrong!

So I really recommend this book! I love it, and I hope you will!!!

I Have Lived A Thousand Years

I just read an ah-MAZING book called I Have Lived A Thousand Years, by Livia Bitton Jackson. This book might be a little scary for some, because it is based during the Holocaust in a concentration camp for a majority of the time, but we young people need to learn really happened in the Holocaust!!!! Don't be turned off! It's probably one of my favorite books of all time!!!!

For Elli Friedmann, life is good. She lives in a beautiful town, gets good grades, and has dreams of going away for school in Budapest. But when the Nazis come to town, everything changes.

This story is incredible!!! I learned so much about the horrors the Jews had to endure during Hitler's reign. But what I especially like about this book is the close relationship Elli and her mother maintain even in the darkest of times. They raise each other up! It really emphasizes the importance of family.

For those of you who love this book, there is a 2 other books in the series!!!! They are just as good as this one!!!

Hope you enjoy!!!! :)

Before Green Gables by Budge Wilson

Good news!!!!
For all of you who love Anne Shirley, the feisty heroine of the Anne of Green Gable Series, you can now go back in time and learn about Anne's past in the book Before Green Gables, by Budge Wilson. Not only is this book squeaky clean, but now you can learn about how Anne became the girl she was in the Green Gables series.

When Anne is orphaned as a baby by an epidemic, she is constantly sent from one foster family to another. Anne's vivid imagination always gets her through her tough times, and helps her to be happy even when life gets hard.

I recommend this book to all of you out there who love Anne, and even those of you who might have never even heard of her! You are in for a treat!

Happy reading!!!!
